Elena Abramova
Waitakere City Orchestra's concert master Elena Abramova was born in St. Petersburg, Russia and from an early age showed outstanding musical ability. She started playing the violin at age five and entered the State Conservatory of St. Petersburg graduating with a Masters Degree in 1996. During her student years Elena performed regularly as a soloist in St. Petersburg and throughout the country and subsequently in South Korea. Elena moved to Christchurch in 2002 where she received excellent reviews following a number of recitals in that city.
In 2003 she moved to Auckland where she is much in demand as a soloist performing regularly with a number of Auckland's leading Orchestras. She joined WCO as Concertmaster in 2004 and has performed regularly as a soloist. In 2005 Elena became a Doctor of Musical Arts Candidate in Violin performance at Auckland University and will finish her doctoral studies in 2008.
